“The number of questionable and possibly illegal transactions conducted on behalf of Herman Cain is staggering”

While the infantile and easily distracted media has found what it longs for and obsesses over endlessly, another tawdry sex scandal and sure ratings bonanza, it appears that far more troubling legal problems for Herman Cain and his early campaign associates is going to be largely ignored by the media, and will probably not result in prosecutions or even a serious investigation:

Herman Cain’s two top campaign aides ran a private Wisconsin-based corporation that helped the GOP presidential candidate get his fledgling campaign off the ground by originally footing the bill for tens of thousands of dollars in expenses for such items as iPads, chartered flights and travel to Iowa and Las Vegas – something that might breach federal tax and campaign law, according to sources and documents. [..]

Election law experts say the transactions raise a host of questions for the private organization, which billed itself as a tax-exempt nonprofit, and the Cain team.

“If the records accurately reflect what occurred, this is way out of bounds,” said a Washington, D.C.-based election lawyer who advises many Republican candidates and conservative groups on campaign issues. The lawyer asked not to be identified because of those affiliations.

Michael Maistelman, a Wisconsin campaign attorney, agreed.

“The number of questionable and possibly illegal transactions conducted on behalf of Herman Cain is staggering,”said Maistelman, a Democrat who has represented politicians from both parties on campaign issues.

This is the price that Americans routinely pay for having a media which possesses a child’s attention span and tendency to get distracted by petty and mostly irrelevant scandals, all while ignoring for decades rampant law breaking on Wall Street, corruption in Washington, the significant decline of the middle class and the rise of a plutocracy in place of our old democracy, and the already weak and toothless campaign finance laws that are regularly ignored by powerful and secretive factions on behalf of politicians like Herman Cain.

These allegations, if proven true, are not surprising and probably not even rare. Especially in the wake of Citizens United, which opened the floodgates for secretive groups to raise unlimited amounts of money to spend on elections with no way of knowing where the money is coming from, and why.

Nor is it a new phenomena for the media to completely ignore highly relevant and important events surrounding powerful political figures who some day might be in a position to shut off the sewage pipe which feeds the press with a mix of superficial and always anonymous gossip from administration officials and senior aides, and cherry picked classified information that supports whatever the leaker wants to have done without any accountability whatsoever. God forbid any reporter should have to dig up that information on their own, and then be beholden to no one but themselves as they act was the people’s watchdog on government.

While the Journal Sentinel in Wisconsin is practicing actual journalism, reporting on what should be a national scandal that could see early Cain campaign associates in prison for a substantial amount of time (and possibly active members of the campaign itself), the national media is lining up to ask Herman Cain if he knows where his dick has been lately. And they’ll be doing that for the better part of the next month as a couple of unproven and unsubstantiated accusations are used by the press to systematically destroy someone who hasn’t done anything provably wrong.

That’s not to say that the accusations shouldn’t be investigated and if necessary, acted upon. But as far as the national press machine is concerned, Herman Cain is already guilty (he’s a loser now, and the press hates losers – losers get the harshest sentence from the media) and from here on out, they will carry out his punishment by refusing to ask about issues which most Americans actually care about: the economy, the wars in the middle east, the dwindling list of civil liberties we’re still graciously allowed to have, the corruption in D.C. and law breaking on Wall Street, the epidemic of foreclosures, the failing education system, increasing levels of poverty, and the skyrocketing income inequality gap.

Nobody will be asking Herman Cain about what he plans to do about any of these problems, should he win the GOP nomination and the Presidency next year.

Instead, our national press will do its favorite thing in the world. It’ll transform into Dateline’s To Catch A Politician, so they can ask what’s really on all of their minds: it’s 10 o’clock, do you know where your dick is, Herman Cain?
